Product Description

Follow the story of Luke, whose diary entries give students a glimpse into the real world of a young smoker. Students learn there are many consequences of an addiction to cigarettes, including its effect on health, family, and friends, and an inability to quit. Luke and Danny spend a lot of time hanging out in front of the town convenience store smoking and talking. It seems that a lot of their old friends have moved on, doing things like sports or ballet. Luke also talks about his dad, who has a new wife and son he likes better. Suspended from school because he was caught smoking in the boys’ room, Luke starts seeing the school counselor who recommends a smoking cessation group. Luke convinces his friend Danny to come to the group with him. It becomes clear that Luke uses smoking as a way of coping with stressful situations. He is urged to make a note of what triggers those urges and pay attention to them. Members of the group suggest he use the online smoking-cessation support group as well. Students learn from Danny and Luke how addictive tobacco is, how the best plan is never to start and where to find help quitting. Awards. Bronze Award, Telly Awards
